The eclipse is coming, lightning struck the Statue of Liberty, there was an earthquake in New Jersey- who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Let’s recap the past week-
Music Monday’s “Song of the Day" this week was Go Away from Sofia Bolt’s upcoming album, Vendredi Minuit.
I posted Summer Wheat’s mural Foragers, from Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC. She recently had a show in Los Angeles at Nazarian/ Curcio, that included new paintings and sculpture.
She will be giving a talk on 4/10 at Mint Museum centered around her new book Forager, women’s role in art, and both her works at the museum, Foragers and Waterfalls.
It was back to LA for a mural flashback this week. This one, with its flowers and rubber ducks, felt like a good one for the season.
Malone University’s gallery was once again showing some really terrific work. Healing Spaces showcased four Northeastern Ohio artists- Julie Schenkelberg, Chen Peng, Yiyun Chen, and Emily Bartolone.
Barbara Bosworth: Sun Light Moon Shadow at Cleveland Museum of Art, like Healing Spaces, also has a peaceful quality. The images of various outdoor scenes, including an eclipse, encourage contemplation.
Several prints from the show also include fireflies. An information plaque mentions that Ohio is home to about two dozen firefly species, and more than 2,000 are known. They are currently in danger due to habitat loss, pesticides, and artificial light. Not good news, but this article provides some hope- and details on group and individual efforts to save them.
If you are going to be experiencing the eclipse on Monday- don’t forget to wear special glasses or create a viewer. Space.com has listed some of the unique visual effects you might be able to see.
Finally, Temples are currently on tour and released their latest album, Exotico, in 2023. Below is a fan-made video, with some fun visual effects (including some eclipse-like moments), for Move with the Season from their 2014 album, Sun Structures.
Until next week- may the eclipse (if you see it) awaken your sense of awe and wonder!
